The Use of Twitter by Freshmen Members of the U.S. House of Representatives

This paper followed the freshmen of 112th Congress of the U.S. House of Representatives on Twitter for 19 days in order to determine how first term members are using the social networking site. Tweets were coded for their main purpose including self promotion, government transparency, constituent outreach, fact/opinion etc. After coding all the tweets for their main purpose an analysis of the results was conducted.
